Let's see if customers like it.

DIARY- Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012

We were fortunate that our hydro was not interrupted by Monday night's storm and we can open for business as usual.  The rain was so heavy last night, the side walk was flooded and threatening to invade into our property.   My prayer goes to those people whose lives are affected adversely by Sandy.

"N" got into a bike accident last night and can't come to work.  We quickly made a few phone calls to others to substitute "N"

One of our servers "N" 's bike got trapped in the street car track, she flew off her bike, head hitting the ground, broke a tooth, scrapped her face, banged her knees.  She sent us picture of her badly bruised face.  She looked like she is off to a Halloween party.

DIARY October 25, 2012

Thursday,   Oct. 25, 2012

NOW newspaper published their top 5 vegan/vegetarian restaurant in the city and we are not in it.  Needless to say what we think of that!!!  What would our beloved patrons think of that!  Ego, ego, ego.  restrain yourself, don't get caught up in that false sense of who you are, imposed by others.  Breath.   We opened at 5pm for dinner and by 6pm we were full.  We should have more faith in our customers and ourselves then "you know who".  Nobody makes marinated tofu as good as we do.  Now, now, ego, go away.

So busy, we have to turn a few tables away. Always feel bad that people come all the way here to eat and we are unable to serve them.  It was raining so heavily too.
Chef made a new seitan patty with sundried tomatoes in it as part of the Special.  Its so goo....d, every one licked their plates.

DIARY Oct. 16, 2012

Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012
One of those restaurant nightmares happened.  A big bug appeared on the wall from out of nowhere.  Its a beetle of some sort, not a cockroach, not a cockroach, it does not have antennas that cockroaches have.  Non the less, still a nightmare. A customer nonchalantly picked it up with a paper napkin and released it outside.  Such gallantry.  The girls were even more impressed with him when he proclaimed our food tops any of the vegetarian restaurants in Montreal.  He is a Montrealer who works for Louis Vuitton.  The girls would love to have Louis Vuitton shoes for their gratuities.

Saturday,  Oct. 13, 2012
We are trying a new company to recycle our cooking oil.  The driver dropped the recycle oil bin off early in the morning before anybody arrived at the restaurant.  Instead of putting the bin at our back lot, he put the bin right in front of our neighbour's backyard door, totally blocking their way out.   The neighbor was furious.  He yelled and screamed and demanded that we remove it immediately.  I don't blame him.   Chef had to move that big heavy metal bin all by himself back to our parking spot.  Thank God he eats a lot of spinach.www.vegetarianhaven.com

DIARY Oct. 12, 2012

Friday,  Oct. 12, 2012
A very handsome young man came in for the first time for dinner.  We have never seen him before.  He was quietly sitting by himself, eating his dinner and reading a book.  When he went to the washroom, one of the two young ladies sitting not far from him went over and left a note with her phone no. in his book.

Its all calm at the front of the house, but the kitchen is in a frenzy.
People are dashing about, Chef is yelling out instructions, tension is in the air.
Chef is preparing for tomorrow's Special which takes a lot of work.

"R" went apple picking during the Thanksgiving weekend with her family and brought some freshly picked apples in.   She used her father's recipe and baked a delicious Apple Bundle wrapped in phyllo pastry.  Chef even used it as the Dessert of the Day.

Closed to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Tuesday

Our patio is closed.  The hustle and bustle on the street slowed down with the closing of all the restaurant patios.
The fresh flowers on the tables brought a sense of Fall colors into the dinning room. The aroma of food cooking, the sounds of cluttering table wares & excited chatters filled the air.  Its cozy.

Wednesday
Oct. 10, 2012
The Summer Drinks Menu is now replaced with The Winter Drinks Menu.
Warming your cold hands with a glass of hot organic apple cider with mulling spices makes the inevitable arrival of Winter a bit more welcoming.

DIARY Oct. 5, 6 and 7, 2012

Friday
Oct. 5, 2012
17 degrees Celsius
The day started off cloudy.  By the time are open at noon, the sun is out.
A beautiful cool, crisp Fall day.

We specifically told Pepsi to remove their fridge not during our busy lunch service.
And what time do they show up?  12:10pm, right at the beginning of our lunch service when customers are filing in.  We asked them to come back after 2pm and they disappeared without returning.

The chef created a new Special of the Day
Rustic mash of herbed sweet potato, layered between crispy baked sheets of phyllo pastry, served with sundried tomato sauce, stir-fried rice noodles and ginger sesame vinaigrette dressed garden mix salad with.

A customer had the phyllo pastry rustic mash and the tomato sauce spilled all over her lap.  There goes a free lunch!

Saturday
Oct. 6, 2012
Open for dinner only
A quieter Saturday then usual.

So happy to see a Chinese family with grandpa, grandma, mother & father, son and daughter, in for dinner.  Sometimes the older generation Chinese finds our Asian inspired menu a bit of a surprise.  I am so pleased that everyone enjoyed their dinner.  Our non Chinese server even delighted them with a few words in Cantonese.
